PLUS: People and Land Use Strategies Faculty Work Group
This top-priority program is being developed to address the questions of sustainable development and coastal management that Florida faces as its population grows to a projected 25.9 million by 2025. The interdisciplinary effort involves faculty from a dozen departments and a partnership with New College of Florida to develop a land use institute that will provide unbiased, scientifically based best-practices advice to state and local governments and the private sector.

Climate Change Work Group
The UF Climate Change Work Group is committed to the creation of interdisciplinary research driven programs for climate mitigation and adaptation.

Hydrology Program/Work Group
Water pervades every aspect of our lives. Many of Florida's agricultural, industrial, recreational, and personal activities rely heavily on water resources. And our delicate ecosystem depends on water resources for sustainability. With water consumption on a steady rise, the study of hydrology is of paramount importance for Florida's environmental and economic health. SNRE funds a number of research initiatives in hydrology and water management through the Hydrology and Water Resource Minigrants Program.

Biogeochemistry Research Program
With the primary goal of solving practical problems, the Wetland Biogeochemical Laboratory promotes research and extension/outreach activities on biogeochemical cycles in wetlands and aquatic ecosystems. The site includes an extensive GIS database.

Center for Latin American Studies
The Center's mission is to advance knowledge about Latin America and the Caribbean and to enhance the scope and quality of Latin American Studies at the University of Florida.

Florida Earth Project
The Florida Earth Project is an educational platform administered by the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, University of Florida (IFAS) through the Palm Beach County Cooperative Extension Service and composed of over 50 partners in education, government, industry and environment.

Florida Master Naturalist Program
The Florida Master Naturalist Program (FMNP) is an adult education extension program. FMNP training benefits persons interested in learning more about Florida’s environment, seeking educational contact hours, or wishing to increase their knowledge for use in education programs as volunteers, employees, and ecotourism guides.

Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory
The FMEL is one of the world's largest research institutions devoted to the understanding and control of medically important and biting insects, while giving special attention to the needs of Florida's mosquito control organizations.

Hydrologic Sciences Academic Cluster
The academic cluster for graduate studies in Hydrologic Sciences is a unique interdisciplinary program designed to broaden the skills of science and engineering students who are interested in all aspects of water.

The Katharine Ordway Preserve-Swisher Memorial Sanctuary
The Ordway Preserve is a research, teaching, and extension facility of the University of Florida established to further the study and conservation of unique ecosystems.

NOAA Coastal Storms Initiative
The Coastal Storms Initiative is a nationwide effort led by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to help coastal communities plan for, respond to, and recover from coastal storms.
The pilot program is underway in Florida's St. Johns Watershed.

Tropical Conservation and Development
The mission of the Tropical Conservation and Development (TCD) Program is to advance biodiversity conservation, sustainable resource management, and the welfare of rural people in the tropics through interdisciplinary graduate education, research, and collaborative learning and practice.

Water Conservation
This online resource directory is part of Florida's State Major Program FL-411, one of many other state major programs. FL 411 promotes water conservation through increasing efficiency, reducing consumption, and maintaining adequate and sustainable supplies.

Water Institute
With the world's largest ecosystem restoration project, one of the world's most productive aquifers, the largest concentration of first magnitude springs in the country, a burgeoning human population, and vulnerability to both climatological and anthropogenic changes in the water cycle, Florida provides a unique living laboratory to develop new knowledge and test solutions to water problems. Engineering, policy and legal solutions developed in Florida will provide a model for others, both nationally and internationally, thus we envision a Water Institute at UF committed to addressing Florida issues while being recognized for providing solutions, science and education for national and global water resource problems.

Wetlands Extension
The emphasis of the Wetlands extension program is on the role of wetlands in controlling or enhancing water quality. More specifically, the program addresses issues of wetland resource management and land use, wetland restoration and construction, and wetlands-related best management practices. This program is directed to both private and public sectors, including agricultural, urban, environmental and regulatory communities.
